Hey, ho - Lascaux! Now this animals-in-motion thing is a ... Muybridge too far ... Winsor McCay, you stole your "Gertie the Dinosaur" (1914) from J'Ogg l'Homme du Caverne, who actually "filmed" her in the wild! And apparently, *l'effect torchique* is what inspired the well-named - you guessed it - Lumière Brothers. Now if they can just find the drawings where the caveman, with a mammoth-skin kerchief about his neck, points his spear straight at the viewer, and the one where he depicted himself rubbing flints together behind his canoe to launch his buds into the eye of the moon, we'll have found what the BBC staff in charge of interstitial programming would call our missing link-men to the Dawn of Cineman.

If you lit the torch and looked down a ways you can probably find the comments section where a flame war has broke out on the debate between whether the rock or pointy stick kills the best.

It was probably just the comments section of the cave, where everybody who came along tried to correct the previous art maker.
